Christine Williams

Owner/Operator, Cello Instructor, Lydian Studio

At the tender age of five, Christine’s mother asked her to choose any instrument she liked to take music lessons. Christine picked the harp. But a harp would not fit in their car, so Christine had to choose again. She chose the double bass – another instrument too large for their family vehicle…

Thankfully, Christine’s third choice was a keeper – the cello!

Christine received her Bachelor of Music in Cello Performance from the University of Victoria where she studied with Pam Highbough of the “LaFayette String Quartet”. She has also studied with John Kadz through the Mount Royal Academy Program for Gifted Youth and has performed throughout the world with the “Calgary Fiddlers” and the “Calgary Youth Orchestra”. She also performed at the 1988 Winter Olympics with artists such as k.d. lang and David Foster.

Now settled in Calgary, Christine performs locally at events such as the “Gas and Oil EXPO North America” and the “Global Petroleum Show”. In addition to her performances, she traveled to the United States to study cello pedagogy with several internationally renowned teachers and performers. These experiences, along with her education and her years of instruction, have been integral to the development of her own unique pedagogy, where she uses a variety of techniques to engage and develop each student individually.
