Christina Free

Violin, Voice & Piano Instructor, Lydian Studio, B. Com

Born in Calgary, Christina started her musical journey at a young age with piano lessons at 4 and singing at 5. Her heart was eventually stolen by the violin and she has been playing for seventeen years.

Most of Christina’s musical studies were undertaken at the “Academy for Gifted Youth” at the Mount Royal University – a program for young, gifted musicians. It was there she undertook intensive musical training in violin performance, chamber music, theory and orchestral music and had the opportunity to play for world renowned violinists, including Itzhak Perlman. Christina has played in the “Calgary Youth Orchestra”, in a number of chamber music groups, with the “Mount Allison University Chamber Orchestra” and as a soloist at many events and fundraisers in Calgary. In addition to playing music for weddings and funerals, she has also performed as a violinist for the Calgary Chinese Business and Professional Association, Centre Street Church, Westside Calgary Chinese Alliance Church, MOSAIC, CAUSE Canada and for the Calgary Chinese Cultural Centre.

Her second instrument is her voice. In addition to singing with the “Calgary Girls Choir” for a number of years, she took professional vocal training for over 8 years and has competed in events such as the “Kiwanis Music Festival” and the “Calgary Contemporary Showcase Festival”, winning many prizes and awards. Christina has been singing at the Jubilee Auditorium, Calgary Chinese Cultural Centre, United Calgary Chinese Association, Westside Calgary Chinese Alliance Church, and at fundraisers for CAUSE Canada and VITAL, as well as for Alberta Children’s Services.
